On the Way to Italy

About a month before our trip, Ellen created an agenda for each city (along with pictures of the famous art and famous ruins/buildings we were looking to see). We also, in preparation, watched several movies set in Italy and documentaries about Italy. We got some of the videos from the library and our friends Jim and Jane shared some with us. We don't remember the titles of everything we saw, but we do remember Roman Holiday, Three Coins in the Fountain, Angels and Demons, a documentary on Leonardo da Vinci, and Europe to the Max: Molto Italiano. We had wanted to see Eat, Pray, Love, but couldn't find it anywhere. So, it was rather funny that, on our way home, it was one of the movies available for us to watch. Due to all the research needed to create our agendas and the watching af all the videos, we felt properly primed and ready to visit Italy.

After our neighbor, Linda, dropped us off at the airport just after 2:00 on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, we headed to security where Roger was immediately frisked since he clearly presents a terrorist persona. Luckily, they let him on through, and it wasn't long before we were sitting in first class and drinking Bloody Marys!

We switched planes in Dallas and settled in for the long haul—plenty of food and wine and very comfortable seats. We dozed a little on the way to Rome (Roger an hour or two, Ellen a few more).
